New Delhi, September 9, 2025:
The Vice President election concluded today with CP Radhakrishnan being elected as the new Vice President of India. He defeated B. Sudershan Reddy, the INDIA bloc candidate.
Vote count: Radhakrishnan — 452 votes; Reddy — 300 votes. The margin gives Radhakrishnan a clear win and a comfortable majority.
Soon after the result was announced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Radhakrishnan and congratulated him on the victory. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the new Vice President will uphold the dignity of the Rajya Sabha and help ensure smooth parliamentary functioning.
Radhakrishnan, a veteran political leader from Tamil Nadu, described the result as a victory for nationalistic ideas and development-focused politics. He said he will work honestly and do his best in the new role while respecting all voices in the Upper House.
The opposition acknowledged the outcome but made it clear that their ideological contest with the ruling party will continue. INDIA bloc leaders said they will keep presenting alternative policies and viewpoints.
